

Provincial Workshop on Urban Food and WASH Stakeholders Engagement Strategy Held in Karachi
Karachi, July 16, 2025 – Under the banner of the Urban Food Project, a Provincial Workshop was held today at the Marriott Hotel, Karachi, to present the Urban Food and WASH Stakeholders Engagement Strategy. The event brought together key stakeholders from government bodies, development organizations, and civil society to discuss collaborative approaches toward urban food systems and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH).
The event was graced by Mr. Abdul Ghani, Minister for Local Government, as Chief Guest, and Ms. Tanzeela Qambrani, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Government of Sindh, as Guest of Honor.
Representing Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Ms. Aaisha Jamshed, Country Director, shared her insights along with Mr. Sarwan Baloch, Expert in Economic Development and Value Chains, and Mr. Faisal Baloch, Monitoring & Evaluation Coordinator.
From Research and Development Foundation (RDF), the delegation included Mr. Masood Ahmed Mahessar, Executive Director; Mr. Arshad Danwer, Associate Director; and Ms. Maria Soomro, Program Manager. The Fast Rural Development Program (FRDP) was represented by Ms. Fozia Rajpoot, Executive Director, and Mr. Zaheerudeen Babar Junejo, Program Manager.
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Bakhshal Lashari, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, RDF, who highlighted the achievements and impact of the Urban Food Project. Following this, Ms. Aaisha Jamshed emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to address urban food insecurity and improve WASH outcomes.
The event witnessed active participation from a wide range of stakeholders including representatives from UNICEF, WFP, SRRHP, BISP, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, WASA, Agriculture Department, and Academia, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable urban development.
